EVERY DAY YOU SAY? WRITE EVERY DAY? It is the key to good writing. It doesn't have to be much, maybe a page or a paragraph or sit and daydream for 5 minutes. Writing - or even thinking about writing - every day for a few concentrated minutes opens your unconscious mind. It shakes hands with your creativity and suddenly your poetry or fiction or non-fiction takes off.
WRITE FAST. None of this thinking about every sentence, every comma, how things are spelled, whether the word is in the right tense. In order to overcome fear and unleash your creativity you MUST WRITE AS FAST AS YOU CAN TYPE OR WRITE. Write and write and write.
Do this often enough and watch magic happen. A story begins to unfold, characters come out of nowhere demanding to be noticed. It works every time - and it does not have to be with publishing in mind. Just do it for the pleasure of writing down your words - maybe you will publish - maybe not - but the joy of just doing the writing will never diminish. This works for corporate/non-fiction and even writing poetry.
speak your written words aloud - take acting classes to see how your characters act on the other side of the page - try to write short lines - banish adverbs (words ending in ly) and exclamation points - allow your action words to make the story come alive - hook into your emotional side through reading and writing poetry - it makes your writing more focused - good stories provide tension on every page and in every scene so the reader wants more
